Unlike other processes of casting, the time line of steps in continuous casting is entirely different. While in other casting processes, each step of casting heating of the metal, poring of the molten liquid into casts, solidification and cast removal are a sequential process, in continuous casting all steps occur congruently and hence it saves a lot of processing time.   CONTINUOUS CASTING Continuous casting, also referred to as strand casting, is a process used in manufacturing industry to cast a continuous length of metal Molten metal is cast through a mold, the casting takes the two dimensional profile of .

The methods include vertical continuous casting and horizontal continuous casting. The article discusses the upcasting methods used in vertical continuous casting and strip casting used in horizontal continuous casting. The upcasting methods include Outokumpu upcasting method, Rautomead upwards vertical casting, and pressure upcasting. This book deals with various science and technology factors that need careful consideration in producing a casting. It consists of 11 chapters contributed by experts in their respective fields. The topics include simulation of continuous casting process, control of solidification of continuous castings, influence of mold flux in continuous casting, segregation in strip casting of steel Cited by:

It describes the process of the steel continuous casting. The article provides a description of the design and layout of a steelmaking facility for continuous casting of steel. It reviews the trends in the steel industry, such as near-net shape casting, the use of tundish metallurgy, and pouring stream protection.

Prior to the introduction of continuous casting in the s, steel was poured into stationary molds to form then, "continuous casting" has evolved to achieve improved yield, quality.

The tundish holds enough metal to provide a continuous flow to the mold, even during an exchange of ladles, which are supplied periodically from the steelmaking process.
